I've been to cosm multiple times for different events, of which all proceeds go towards building the Entheon, basically an art gallery that focuses on how the divine is portrayed in art from various religions throughout history. Tool has one of the most toxic fandoms in music, which sucks because it honestly makes me listen to them less than I used to. Had to just about fight a lady over trying to steal wine glasses once. No one cared about the wine all they wanted to know was when Maynard was going to show up (very specifically stated when tickets went up for sale that he wouldn't be there). I ran wine tastings before the show when whatever band he was touring with was in my city, and the people who came to the events were beyond obnoxious, at best. He knows they're crazy, and admittedly he deals with them because they pay his bills. At one APC show a guy asked him for a picture and Maynard just told security to kick him out lol. He has strict rules about how he interacts with his fans because he is both aware and uncomfortable with how they idolize him. I've seen them 14 times, I know the music, bud.Īdditionally, I was in the wine industry and worked several events for Maynard, which usually would mean hanging out and talking shop with the guy before and after the show. Nothing better than having some dude try and explain the band to me if I wear any of the shirts in public! Like. but once that experience I can no longer look at the Grey's quite the same. Obviously, the temple is unique and very well designed, etc. It was a very weird experience being in a crowd of DMT and weed smoke, hundreds of wooks and hippies and college students, and Allyson talking about whatever thousands of dollars they needed to finish this temple. And all they talked about was raising money for the COSM temple. When Alex's introduction time came on stage, Allyson spent the entire time talking, with some brief lines from Alex. Something that reinforced this feeling for me is-a few years ago I went to a Shpongle show in New Orleans and was so excited to see Alex Grey in person for the first time, was hoping to hear him say some interesting things. I've loved Alex Grey's art since I started listening to Tool in high school but I'm about a decade older now and when I look and listen to Alex Grey and his wife as actual people, I get seriously weird creep vibes at times that I'm not sure are misplaced or not. The word often carries derogatory connotations, but not always.Īlso, despite questioning some of these organizations, please be respectful of all religious beliefs. However, whether any particular group's beliefs and practices are sufficiently deviant or novel is often unclear, thus making a precise definition problematic. This term has a few meanings: organizations (not always religious) that use tactics to commit crimes and attack opponents, or organizations that act under extreme secrecy or have seemingly 'weird' practices.
